New Batwoman star Javicia Leslie wants to do a crossover with Black Lightning, but the ongoing pandemic makes it a longshot.

Speaking with TVLine ahead of her debut as the Scarlet Knight, Leslie noted how her character crossing over with the Black-led Black Lightning would have been a wonderful experience, especially as she has close friends in the cast. “I’m so heartbroken about the COVID situation because I know that it’s Black Lightning's last season, and I would have loved to do a crossover with them," Leslie said. "Nafessa [Williams] and Jordan [Calloway] are really good friends of mine, and it would have been great to play with them and be superheroes all on the same show. That would have been epic."

On Black Lightning, Williams plays Annisa Pierce, aka the hero Thunder, who became The CW's first out Black lesbian superhero when the show debuted. Leslie's Ryan Wilder will continue that tradition when she dons the cape and cowl. As for Calloway, who plays Khalil Payne, his persona, Painkiller, will be getting his own CW series.

Similarly, other heroes and villains from the series could appear elsewhere in the Arrowverse. If they do, Leslie is excited about the team-up possibilities. “Whatever show that has Black people on it, I’m going to do these crossovers with because I just want it to be a super Black crossover,” she said.

It was announced last November that the upcoming fourth season of Black Lightning will be its last. And with the pandemic making filming a challenge, it seems unlikely that Batwoman and the heroes of Black Lightning will be joining forces anytime soon. Last year was the first without an annual Arrowverse crossover since the tradition began in 2014 with Arrow and The Flash teaming up. The final crossover, 2019's "Crisis on Infinite Earths," brought Black Lightning himself into the fold, while 2018's "Elseworlds" marked the Arrowverse debut of the former Batwoman, Kate Kane.
