With the recent announcement of Ruby Rose exiting her role as the titular character in the Batwoman series, audiences have been wondering how the show will carry on for Season 2. The fate of Kate Kane's love interest, Sophie Moore, remains a mystery as well; however, she should not be discounted. There are numerous reasons why Sophie is a fantastic character, and she should be kept at the forefront of the series. She even has the potential to take over the Batwoman title herself; although, there has been no word from the CW about this approach.

One reason she's suited for this is because Sophie trained in combat at Point Rock Academy, the same place that Kate was trained. In fact, she was one of the top cadets. She has the same training as Kate and has refined her combat and martial arts skills over the years as an agent for Crows Security. Sophie is also capable of unconventional skills that even Kate does not possess.

Furthermore, Sophie represents two minority groups: the LGBTQ community and the Black community. If she was to step into the Batwoman role, it would be a groundbreaking. The world of superheroes is majorly lacking in the area of representation of Black folks, so having a Black Batwoman would be a major step forward.

As far as representation for the LGBTQ community, Season 1 already laid some groundwork for Sophie's struggle with her sexuality and the process of coming out. In Season 1, Episode 14, her mother finds out she is queer, and she is less than approving. This is only scratching the surface of Sophie's journey with her sexuality, and diving further into it would be a very interesting part of the second season should she become Batwoman, or at least continue playing a major role.

Sophie as Batwoman would also bring a sense of fluidity to the overall storyline. She is already a well-established and loved character in this series. She has a history of a serious relationship with Kate and was by her side through the season. It would make sense for her to become the Scarlet Knight because she would have a reason to do so with Kate leaving in some way. While the pair has had a rocky history, it's clear that Sophie cares for Kate. It would be plausible for her to assume the Batwoman identity because of this, or for her to at least dive deeper into the vigilante world.

Though Sophie as the new Batwoman is clearly the most desirable choice in some cases, recent news has revealed that the CW aims to go a different route. They plan to replace Kate Kane with a new character, Ryan Wilder. However, introducing a completely new character as Batwoman doesn't make sense when fans already have an established character like Sophie in the picture. Her training and skills, the fluidity in storyline and the representation for Black and LGBTQ folks would make her the best character to wear the cowl. Regardless of who becomes the next Batwoman, Sophie is a great character in this series, and hopefully the CW will keep her at the forefront of Batwoman.
