Former Batwoman star Ruby Rose described the difficulty she had with her costume's latex mask while filming Season 1 of the Arrowverse series.

During a recent appearance on The Kyle & Jackie O Show on the Australian Radio Network, Rose said, "I did find out that I was allergic to latex... unfortunately, my mask is latex. I was getting worse and worse, because as you get more contact with it, I guess you get more reactions. I took off the [mask] at the end, and my face was just hives. My throat was all messed up. It was like it was out of a scary movie."

Rose previously stated during an appearance on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon in 2019 that the cowl was actually redesigned, with extra cotton padding being added to limit her skin exposure. At the time, she explained that this change was made because she was breaking out after long days of shooting.

Following the conclusion of the first season, Rose made the surprise announcement that she was leaving Batwomanin part because of a neck injury she sustained while doing a stunt that ultimately required emergency surgery. Instead of recasting the role of Kate Kane right away, producers introduced a new character, Ryan Wilder, played by Javicia Leslie, who took over as the new Batwoman in Season 2. Wallis Day appeared as Kate Kane in several episodes at the end of Season 2 to wrap up Kate's story.
