Batwoman's pilot episode almost had explicit references to her Jewish heritage, but they were left out of the final cut.

At The CW's Television Critics Association press tour panel, executive producer Caroline Dries revealed the pilot once referenced Kate's bat mitzvah. A flashback scene originally mentioned that the future Batwoman was on the way home from her bat mitzvah. However, this was ultimately cut from the episode, a move Dries regrets.

"Kate Kane is a Jewish woman," Dries confirmed. However, "We're trying to find ways of incorporating that without it being a huge thing."

Because of her character's faith, Ruby Rose needed to have some of her tattoos altered for her on-screen appearances. For instance, her real-life tattoo of a cross will be changed with makeup for the series. Further, since tattoos are frowned upon in certain Jewish sects, she likely isn't Orthodox, Conservative or Reform.

Written by Caroline Dries and developed by Bertlanti Productions and Warner Bros. Television, Batwoman stars Ruby Rose, Rachel Skarsten, Meagan Tandy, Camrus Johnson, Dougray Scott, Elizabeth Anweis and Nicole Kang. The series will premiere on Sunday, Oct. 6 and air on Sundays at 8 pm ET/PT.
