WARNING: The following contains minor spoilers for "What Happened To Kate Kane?" the first episode of Batwoman Season 2.

Season 2 of The CW's Batwoman will finally feature Jacob Kane teaming up with daughter Mary in the wake of Kate's disappearance.

Entertainment Weekly spoke with Batwoman showrunner Caroline Dries and stars Nicole Kang and Dougray Scott, who teased that their characters, Mary and Jacob, will spend a lot more time together in the show's second season.

"In all of the excitement of Season 1, we got to know a lot about Mary in relation to her clinic and her relation to Kate, but there is this dynamic that I think didn't get enough attention, which is Mary and her step-dad," Dries said. "Jacob was so busy paying attention to Alice and paying attention to Kate and that woman that Mary never really got his attention. And so that's something that we're building into this season and trying to strengthen and complicate that dynamic at the same time."

As Dries mentions, Jacob's heavy focus on Kate and Alice/Beth in Season 1 left little time for his other daughter, Mary. The somewhat forgotten daughter spent much of Season 1 developing her own arc as both a doctor to the underserved in the city and an eventual part of Batwoman's team. But she also had to watch her sister and father suffer due to Alice, and she then had to watch her own mother die at the villain's hand. With Kate now gone too, Mary and Jacob will finally bond over their loss and trauma.

"They [turn] to each other this season in this gorgeous way of really leaning on one another," Kang said. "And Jacob lets a lot of his guard down with Mary. I'm just really excited to explore that relationship. She has never felt like she's gotten the attention of her dad. I think that's a huge reason why she is so charismatic and so extra as we will; she's dying to get her father's attention. And here they are really, really needing one another. And I think it surprises Jacob, how much he needs Mary."

Scott echoed Kang's sentiments, teasing the on-screen growth of his character's relationship with Mary. "I think it's great that this season they have a chance to discover a different part to the relationship that he just didn't have time for in the past. And of course, she has this whole other secret life that he knows nothing about."

That final tease could threaten to strain the strengthening bond, as Jacob only just learned of Kate's time as Batwoman. Will learning that Mary has been working with both the old and new Scarlet Knight damage her relationship with her step-father?
