New Batwoman lead Javicia Leslie, who plays the character of Ryan Wilder in the series' upcoming second season, has revealed the first photo of herself sporting Kate Kane's old Batsuit -- as well as teased the new version that has yet to be revealed.
Leslie shared the photo to her Instagram page. In it, she can be seen wearing Kate's version of the Batwoman cowl, red hair and all. "Look out, Gotham, I'm suited up and ready to go," she wrote. "But just wait until Ryan Wilder puts her own spin on the Batsuit."
Actor Ruby Rose made her debut as Kate Kane/Batwoman in the Arrowverse's "Elseworlds" event, spinning out into a Batwoman series of her own, which premiered its first season on The CW in October of 2019. Following the conclusion of Season 1, Rose departed the DC television series, which had already been renewed for Season 2. Leslie was then tapped to play a new protagonist named Ryan Wilder, who will take up the Batwoman mantle following Kate's disappearance when Batwoman returns in January.
As Leslie implies in her post, however, while Ryan will apparently start her crimefighting career sporting Kate's Batsuit, she will eventually get her own customized version. Leslie already teased Ryan's take on the Batwoman costume at DC FanDome, explaining that its design would reflect her Black identity, complete with "natural textured hair."
Returning to The CW in January 2021, Batwoman stars Javicia Leslie, Rachel Skarsten, Shivani Ghai, Leah Gibson Nathan Owens, Meagan Tandy, Camrus Johnson, Dougray Scott and Nicole Kang. The series airs Sundays at 8 p.m.
