With principal photography the Batwoman pilot episode for The CW expected to begin sometime this month, creator Greg Berlanti has revealed when in the Arrowverse timeline the episode takes place.

While appearing at the INTV conference in Jerusalem, Berlanti, who has created or co-created all the programs in the network's Arrowverse, divulged that the pilot episode of the planned series would be an origin story. As Ruby Rose's Kate Kane had already firmly settled into her role as Batwoman during this season's Arrowverse crossover "Elseworlds," this means the pilot would take place sometime before the events of her debut appearance in the crossover.

"[It's an] origin story that we set up predates the crossover; it’s a story prior to the crossover.” explained Berlanti in an interview with Deadline.

It is unknown if the rest of the series will take place before the events of "Elseworlds," time jump to the Arrowverse's relative present or employ a flashback structure similar to Arrow, but it looks as though Kate's early days as a crimefighter will be revealed in time.
