Batwoman is borrowing a page out of Arrow's book. In the series premiere, Kate Kane's story was fleshed out through a series of flashbacks, which showed how and why she set out to become an expert combatant. According to star Meagan Tandy, who plays love interest Sophie Moore, that will continue as the series progresses.

"There will be more flashbacks from military school, why Sophie did what she did," she told the audience at Batwoman's New York Comic Con panel. "There were very real-life things driving that. It’s so real and really authentic, and I think black women will be able to relate."

Later, she elaborated to the press, saying, "There are definitely going to be some flashbacks and people are going to definitely get a much better understanding as to why this split in military school really happened. Yeah, you don't get that much of it in the pilot. But later on, you're going to be going through this struggle with Sophie because she's trying to figure out, 'Am I living in my truth? Or is my truth my husband? Or Kate?'"

"There's going to be a lot of that up-and-down, back-and-forth in the pool between her and Kate," she added. "But yeah, you're gonna definitely going to get a lot of backstory. It's coming. I'm actually really excited about it because we just filmed it!"
