Thanks to shutdowns caused by the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic, Batwoman's first season ended early — which denied the show the opportunity to add a Supergirl cameo.

In the finale that aired, Kate Kane mentions to Mary and to Luke — who has been on a quest to destroy all kryptonite — that she has a piece of it she's been keeping on Supergirl's behalf. Kate says she would need Supergirl's okay to turn it over. Kate then retrieves the kryptonite, which is hidden in a photo frame in her library. Dries said the photo in the frame was supposed to be of Kate with Kara Danvers.

"Well, here is one of the COVID setbacks. The frame that Kate swipes the kryptonite out of, that was supposed to be a picture of Kara and Kate," she told TVLine. "When I saw the cut it said, 'INSERT PICTURE OF KARA & KATE.' I was like, 'Guys, why is this still in the cut?' They said, 'We can’t go and shoot a picture of them together, we're on lockdown.' So that was kind of a bummer, because I wanted to show that Kate had a picture of Kara in her library, because they’re friends."

Those hoping for a Season 2 appearance by Kara to give Kate her blessing should not hold their breath. The two series' production schedules don't align well next year, so a crossover is unlikely. "We're just going to have to imply it somehow," Dries said.

Created by Caroline Dries and developed by Berlanti Productions and Warner Bros. Television, Batwoman stars Ruby Rose, Rachel Skarsten, Meagan Tandy, Camrus Johnson, Dougray Scott, Elizabeth Anweis and Nicole Kang. The first season is available to stream on The CW app and website.
