WARNING: The following article contains spoilers for Batwoman's Season 2 Finale, "Power," which aired tonight on The CW.

Batwoman star Dougray Scott -- who has played Jacob Kane, father of Kate Kane, since Season 1 -- will not be returning for Season 3, showrunner Caroline Dries has confirmed.

Per Entertainment Weekly, Scott has left the CW superhero series after two seasons. The actor's final appearance as Jacob Kane came in Batwoman Season 2, Episode 16 -- "Rebirth" -- in which he disbanded Crows and was arrested for helping Alice. Scott did not appear in last week's episode, "Kane, Kate," or tonight's Season 2 finale, "Power."

"Having Dougray Scott as Jacob Kane on Batwoman was incredibly special for all of us," Dries said in a statement. "An actor with his pedigree and reputation elevates any project, and he had great chemistry with his castmates. We loved telling Commander Kane's story for the last two seasons, and we will always leave the door open to have him return. We wish him the very best!"

Dries explained to EW that the character of Jacob had "sort of run its course, for better or for worse, through that story line. So it worked out that it was mutual [with Scott]. We ended up being able to really write to a good ending for Jacob, just kind of knowing in advance that's what we were going to do. I'm very pleased with how that story line worked out for him. It allowed us to give Dougray some really rich stuff toward the end."

Scott's Jacob isn't the only Kane departing Batwoman after Season 2. Krypton alum Wallis Day -- who stepped up to play Kate Kane, the original Batwoman, following Ruby Rose's departure -- is also bidding farewell to Gotham City for the time being. In "Power," Day's Kate explains that she's leaving in order to track down her missing cousin, Bruce Wayne.

Ruby Rose originally debuted as Kate Kane/Batwoman during the Arrowverse's "Elseworlds" crossover event back in 2018. Rose went on to star in her own Batwoman spinoff, which premiered on The CW in 2019. However, Rose abruptly left the show following its first season. After the fact, Javicia Leslie was cast as the Season 2's new lead character, Ryan Wilder, who takes up the Batwoman mantle in Kate's absence. Leslie will return as Ryan Wilder/Batwoman for Season 3, which is slated to premiere this October.
