WARNING: The following contains spoilers for the Batwoman Season 2 premiere, "What Happened to Kate Kane?," which debuted Jan. 17 on The CW.

The new Batwoman, Ryan Wilder (Javicia Leslie), explains why she's the perfect choice to put on the cape and cowl in a promo for Batwoman's Season 2, Episode 2.

The promo also shows Ryan using her martial arts skills to stop an armed robbery at a convenience store, along with her dressed up as the Scarlet Knight and meeting Sophie Moore in an interrogation room.

Javicia Leslie debuted as Ryan Wilder in Batwoman's Season 2, Episode 1, "What Happened to Kate Kane?" Season 2's premiere showed Ryan recovering the Batsuit from the wreckage of a plane crash that's presumed to have killed Kate Kane. Although Ryan initially used the Batsuit to battle the False Face Society and Tommy Elliot disguised as Bruce Wayne, she handed it back to Luke Fox and Mary Hamilton-Kane, feeling she wasn't worthy yet.

Batwoman's Season 2 premiere also delved into Ryan's past, revealing she served time in prison on false charges for drug possession. In addition, the episode confirmed a connection between Ryan and Alice's gang, who were linked to the squatters that killed Ryan's adopted mom when she and Ryan just moved into their new apartment in Gotham City.

The Season 2 premiere ended with Ryan discovering she was experiencing side effects after being shot by a Kryptonite shard during her fight with Tommy. "[It is] 100% is going to affect Ryan's system, but you also have to remember she's a very strong and proud woman," Leslie said in an interview with CBR. "Her entire focus right now is to prove that she can be Batwoman, and so she's not going to admit the fact that she's going through something and that's really going to be a huge issue because she needs help and she just won't admit it."

Airing Sundays at 8 pm ET/PT on The CW, Batwoman stars Javicia Leslie as Ryan Wilder, Rachel Skarsten as Alice, Meagan Tandy as Sophie Moore, Camrus Johnson as Luke Fox, Dougray Scott as Jacob Kane and Nicole Kang as Mary Hamilton-Kane.
