Gamers are about to get the chance to party like it's 1991 with Dlala Studios 's brand new installment of the classic Battletoads franchise coming soon to Xbox Game Pass.

At Microsoft's E3 press conference on Sunday, the tech giant unveiled a gameplay trailer starring the jacked amphibian trio of Zitz, Pimple, and Rash laying the beat-down in classic side-scrolling, beat'em up action.

Developed for three-player local multiplayer, the upcoming revival title features high resolution hand-drawn animation over 4K ultra high definition computer-rendered imagery to provide a 2.5D visual experience.

Featuring updated versions of the classic retro soundtrack from the famous arcade-style beat'em-up, the new Battletoads also includes the notoriously difficult vehicle stages that frustrated players for decades with players navigating obstacle-filled tracks.

In an update to these sequences however the vehicle stages appear to be from a third-person perspective rather than the original game which had players face side-scrolling stages with little warning about upcoming obstacles. Even with the updated perspective, the revival title may be just as difficult as its predecessors.

This title marks the first new Battletoads game since Battletoads Arcade hit arcades 25 years ago in 1994.

Battletoads is developed by DLaLa Studios, in association with Rare, and published by Microsoft. It will be released for Xbox One and PC some time later this year.
