Battlestar Galactica developer Ronald D. Moore will adapt Diana Gabaldon’s bestselling Outlander fantasy-adventure novels for Starz, Deadline reports. Sony Pictures and Jim Kohlberg’s Story Mining and Supply Co. are producing.

Debuting in 1991, the genre-spanning seven-book series follows Claire, a married World War II combat nurse who accidentally steps back in time to the year 1743, where she's thrown into an unknown world of adventure. When she's forced to marry a chivalrous and romantic young Scottish warrior, it ignites a passionate affair that tears Claire’s heart between two vastly different men in two irreconcilable lives.

The novels have sold 20 million copies worldwide, with an eighth installment set for release next year.
