'Battlestar Galactica' Producer to Develop 'Gateway' TV Series on SyFy

"Battlestar Galactica" producer David Eick and Josh Pate will adapt Frederik Pohl's Hugo and Nebula Award-winning bestseller "Gateway" as a television series on SyFy, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

In addition to serving as showrunner, Eick will rework Pate's pilot episode script. The duo will also executive produce the project alongside Martha De Laurentiis, Michael Rosenberg and Lorenzo De Maio.

In Pohl's novel, humanity comes across a fleet of advanced spaceships abandoned by an alien race called the Heechee. As humans attempt to reprogram the ships, they are teleported to another world full of riches and danger. The story follows prospector Robinette Broadhead, who enters the Gateway and returns a wealthy man haunted by the loss of his crewmates and the love of his life.

"We’re delighted to develop this fascinating First Contact story with long-time partners UCP and Entertainment One. 'Gateway' is thought-provoking and unsettling, raising profound questions about mankind’s possible relationship with alien life,” Syfy original content exec vice president Bill McGoldrick said in a statement.
