Jon Cryer -- known for such roles as Alan Harper on Two and a Half Men and the classic DC Comics villain Lex Luthor on Supergirl -- says he once received a test offer to play the character of Gaius Baltar on Battlestar Galactica.Battlestar Galactica premiered on Sci-Fi (now Syfy) in 2004 as a re-imagining of the 1978 ABC television series of the same name. The reboot series, which ran for four seasons and concluded in 2009, starred James Callis as Dr. Gaius Baltar, an updated version of the character Count Baltar from the original series. While Callis has become synonymous with Gaius Baltar, Cryer reveals that he was once given the chance to read for the role -- but turned it down in favor of Two and a Half Men.RELATED: Battlestar Galactica's Ronald D. Moore Developing Fantasy Series for HuluEver Carradine, known for her role as Janet Stein on Marvel's Runaways, recently made a post to Twitter, asking, "Actors: What is a show or movie you came extremely close to getting that no one would ever believe? I'll go first: I tested for Grace on Will & Grace three or four times." Cryer quote-tweeted the post, writing, "In order to do my final network test for Two and a Half Men, I had to turn down a test offer to play Gaius Baltar in Battlestar Galactica."

In a follow-up post, Cryer clarified that there are absolutely no hard feelings regarding the way things ultimately played out. "For the record, it worked out fine," he wrote. "I loved doing Two and a Half Men, and I think Battlestar Galactica is one of the best sci-fi shows ever on TV and that [James Callis] is one of the reasons why."
