DC Comics' freshly released September 2015 solicitations provided quite a few intriguing glimpses into what the company has planned for the early fall -- including the latest on the evolving status quos of both Batman and Superman, plus the much-delayed final issue of "The Sandman: Overture."

  • Superman storyline "Truth" -- featuring a Man of Steel who has been outed as Clark Kent and depleted of his powers -- has been one of the main featured storylines of DC's post-"Convergence" direction, and the arc looks to close in September, with the finale running through "Action Comics" #44, "Batman/Superman" #24, "Superman/Wonder Woman" #21 and "Superman" #44.
  • The end of "Truth" looks like it also may have major impact on Batman -- or at least, the Batman/Superman dynamic -- as the solicitation text for "Batman/Superman" #24 by Greg Pak and Ardian Syaf reads, "Superman discovers the true fate of Batman and makes a fateful decision."
  • Speaking of Batman, the "Wytches" team of regular "Batman" writer Scott Snyder and acclaimed artist Jock will take on "Batman" #44 -- which is billed as the origin of new villain Mr. Bloom, in a story set in Bruce Wayne's past. Snyder and Jock previously worked on Batman story "The Black Mirror" in 2011.
  • Ever-popular duo Harley Quinn and Poison Ivy will guest star in a somewhat surprising place: "Scooby-Doo Team-Up" #12, written by Sholly Fisch and with art by Dario Brizuela. Based on the cover, they both appear very close to their classic "Batman: The Animated Series" character designs.
  • Neil Gaiman and J.H. Williams III's "The Sandman: Overture" #1 was released back in October 2013, and the series is scheduled to conclude nearly two years later with issue #6, solicited for release on Sept. 30.
  • Also ending in September: Fellow Vertigo series "FBP: Federal Bureau of Physics" with issue #24, and The CW tie-in series "The Flash Season Zero" and "Arrow Season 2.5;" both ending with #12 and with new seasons of the respective TV shows starting in the fall.
  • Dick Grayson is looking at a busy month in September. In "Grayson" #12 co-written by Tom King and Tim Seeley and illustrated by Mikel Janin, he returns to Gotham City for the first time since faking his death and joining Spyral -- and clearly, a lot has changed in the extended Batman family in that period. He also guest stars in "Midnighter" #4 by Steve Orlando and Stephen Mooney, to fight "feral vampires" in Moscow.
  • Veteran artist Paul Pelletier joins "Justice League United" for issue #13, which is written by Jeff Parker and said to also feature "the long awaited return of a legendary DC Comics hero."
  • Speaking of guest artists, "Y the Last Man" illustrator Pia Guerra joins "Black Canary" and regular series writer Brenden Fletcher for issue #4.
