Batman has had a number of different sidekicks put on the Robin uniform and join him in fighting crime over the years, but if Batman writer Chip Zdarsky had his way? He'd let the X-Men character Doop be the next to pick up the mantle.

On his Substack, Zdarsky was asked what he would do with the Marvel Comics character of Doop if he was given the opportunity. "If you could include Doop in any of your books (thanks to his marginal, quasi-dimensional nature), which one would you choose and why?" the question, from a fan named "Dan," read. "You really have to ask?" Zdarsky simply said in response. Below the answer, Zdarsky posted a picture of Doop dressed in portions of Robin's signature outfit.

First appearing in 2001's X-Force #116 by Peter Milligan, Michael Allred and Laura Allred, Doop is a somewhat strange, green and potato-shaped creature most commonly associated with the X-Men -- despite the fact that he's not actually a mutant. Doop was created as a Cold War experiment to create artificial life, as revealed by Captain America. He is unable to speak English and rather communicates in some form of alien language; however, it's never really been a problem for the character as almost everyone he encounters is somehow able to understand what he's saying.

Doop's powers include superhuman strength, cohesion, flight, durability, accelerated regeneration, resurrection, size alteration and more -- though, being an extra-dimensional being, said powers often appear, disappear and re-appear as needed. The character initially joined the X-Force when he was hired as their videographer, meaning that Doop would go around with a camera and collect footage of the mutant team's various battles. When the X-Force members became X-Statix, Doop stayed on the team up until he and most of the rest of the group were shot down and killed during their final mission together.

Doop reappeared in the following years when the X-Men ventured into space and he came crashing back down to Earth. He received his own solo series that ran for five issues called All-New Doop in 2014 by Peter Milligan, David Lafuente, Laura Allred, Clayton Cowles, Nick Lowe and Devin Lewis. Doop has since been spotted living on the mutant island of Krakoa.

Given that Doop is owned by Marvel Comics, seeing him take up the Robin mantle probably isn't going to happen anytime soon. Past Robins who have worked alongside Batman include Dick Grayson, Jason Todd, Tim Drake, Stephanie Brown and Damian Wayne.
