As the creator of the Batman: White Knight line of comics in addition to his creator-owned work, Sean Murphy is one of the comic book industry's most recognizable figures. However, Murphy has recently faced criticism online.

Murphy illustrated a comic book cover for a creator accused of publicly espousing strong anti-LGBTQ views, resulting in Murphy receiving backlash. In response, Murphy has confirmed that his cover has since been pulled at his own request before issuing an apology to the LGBTQ community online.

Murphy did not specifically disclose which creator he provided the cover art for in his apology, but he had previously shared that he had drawn a cover for Bigfoot Bill 2: Finger of Poseidon, a self-published title by Earthworm Jim creator Doug TenNapel with noted anti-LGBTQ views. TenNapel has since confirmed separately that the pulled cover Murphy drew was, in fact, for Bigfoot Bill.

Murphy was recently announced to be overseeing a line of comic books set within the continuity of his White Knight stories, published through DC's mature readers imprint DC Black Label.
