Much like Batman is to the DC universe, Spider-Man is arguably the most famous and successful Marvel hero. The character has been featured in comics, several animated shows, and has had three live-action movie incarnations. Spider-Man was also the late great Stan Lee's personal favorite and has become one of the faces of Marvel over the years.

A large part of this popularity of Batman and Spider-Man is because of their villains. Both feature unique and fascinating galleries of rogues that make the stories even more memorable. So what if things were different? What if Batman's villains belonged to Marvel? Which ones would fit the most into Spider-Man's mythos?

10 Firefly

Firefly From Batman Arkham Origins

Spider-Man is no stranger to technology-based villains. With Firefly, however, it would be a technology villain that would provide an interesting challenge for him. The jetpack would make it hard for Spidey to keep up a la Green Goblin.

The biggest problem would be Firefly's flamethrower which would likely melt Spider-Man's webs like butter. So Spider-Man would be forced to use brains and brawn in order to defeat Garfield Lynns. Firefly was even a problem for Batman in incarnations like the Arkhamverse.

9 Solomon Grundy

Most of Spider-Man's villains are science-based in some way, he typically doesn't have to deal with magic. A character like Solomon Grundy would provide a neat change for Spider-Man; Grundy is a nearly indestructible zombie who seemingly cannot be killed permanently.

Spider-Man has taken on giant bruisers in the past like the Rhino and even Venom but due to the zombie nature of Grundy, it would require thinking outside the box. Grundy is often compared to the Hulk so an encounter with Grundy would also lead to some funny Hulk-themed quips.

8 Doctor Phosphorus

This is a villain who sounds straight out of a Spider-Man story. A scientist who was working on a dangerous project and said project transforms him into a mutant with powers. So it's easy to see why Spider-Man would make a good opponent for this villain.

Spider-Man would have to figure out a way to fight the radiation while trying to come up with a cure. Likely Peter Parker would have some kind of ties to the scientist side of Phosphorus and would try to break through to the human side with his words.

7 Copperhead

Copperhead Arkham Origins Batman

Spider-Man has a tendency to fight animal-themed villains as Batman does; leading to villains like Rhino, Vulture, Scorpion, and even Vermin. Why not add snakes into the mix and have Spider-Man fighting Copperhead?

Copperhead is a character who has gone through several incarnations. In most, he or she is a deadly assassin with snake-like qualities that even Batman has trouble with. Copperhead could easily provide a physical challenge for Spider-Man and a mental one as he deals with the poison that comes with the villain.

6 Scarecrow

Speaking of poison, Scarecrow is a villain that is iconic for Batman but could actually work for a variety of heroes. In Spider-Man's case, Scarecrow's fear toxin would turn Peter Parker's world into a living nightmare. Peter lives with so much guilt and responsibility on his shoulders.

It's amazing how Peter always manages to bounce back but the fear toxin would make Mysterio's illusions seem tame. Visions of Uncle Ben, Gwen Stacy, and so many more torturing Spider-Man thus turning Scarecrow into a contender for Spider-Man's rival. Scarecrow could also be a physical threat if the story took inspiration from Injustice where the toxin makes him into a monster.

5 Clayface

Another common trope of Spider-Man villains is the monsters. Fitting right in the sci-fi world, most of Spider-Man's villains start off as normal people. Then through a variety of means, they transform into beasts or technological terrors that can level a city.

Fitting within that is Clayface, another character who has seen many incarnations. His shapeshifting powers, super strength, and ferocity are similar to Flint Marko AKA Sandman. However, Clayface would be a more deadly challenge due to having weaknesses that are harder to expose and Clayface being arguably eviler.

4 Man-Bat

6 Man-Bat

Much like how Clayface is in the same vein as Sandman, Man-Bat is nearly identical to The Lizard. A scientist using a certain animal's DNA to cure specific ailments humans have; this results in the scientist transforming into a giant killer version of said animal.

Obviously, Man-Bat would definitely fit into the world of Spider-Man just fine. However, Man-Bat would still provide new and unique hurdles for Spidey to get over. The flight is the obvious one and that usually, Man-Bat is not as human as the Lizard is. Man-Bat is more monstrous whereas the Lizard (depending on the version) retains intelligence.

3 Mr. Freeze

Gotham-Knights-Mr-Freeze (1)

For every Spider-Man villain that is designed to be evil and hateful, there is always another villain that has readers and viewers feeling sorry for them. Spider-Man movies definitely went in this direction with a lot of their villains. One who fits that description is none other than Mr. Freeze.

Spider-Man knows what it's like to lose people, so he would sympathize with Victor Fries. Freeze would also be a threat due to his suit providing him extra strength, meaning Spider-Man likely will need more than his fists. Especially when he's dealing with the villain's freeze ray that would render his webs useless.

2 Bane

Bane

Most of Spider-Man's villains who display super strength are not that imposing in the end. Rhino, Sandman, and Tombstone are all essentially dumb thugs in the comics meant for Spider-Man to foil rather quickly.

Bane would make for a perfect threat: the strength of Rhino mixed with the tactical and sinister mind of Taskmaster. Bane would likely adapt to fight against Spider-Man's agile fighting style and is a villain capable of killing the web-slinger.

1 The Court Of Owls

The Court of Owls and the Talon during DC's New 52

Spider-Man has never taken on a secret society of villains before. The Court Of Owls would not only make for a great threat for Spider-Man but for many Marvel heroes. Allowing for a darker, grittier story, Spider-Man would be forced to uncover the mystery of the Court.

More than likely, someone like Norman Osborn would be featured in their ranks to add to the drama. As a bonus, it would be a drastically different fight between Spider-Man and the Talons in comparison to Batman.
