Despite a negative critical reception, Warner Bros.' "Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice" has out-performed Marvel Studios' "Avengers: Age of Ultron," "Avengers" and "Iron Man 3" as well as their own "Dark Knight" at Thursday night's box office. Deadline reports the film earned $27.7m on its preview night, surpassing "Age of Ultron's" $27.6m.

Additionally, "Batman v Superman" has become the best pre-Easter preview, easily overcoming "Furious 7's" previous record of $15.7m. The film is already off to a great start overseas, having grossed $7 million from 10 territories over the last couple days. According to BoxOfficeMojo, "Batman v Superman's" haul has mad it the sixth largest Thursday preview number ever.

Early box office projections are predicting an overall $160 million domestic opening for "Batman v Superman." This number is part of the total global predicted box office, which is currently projected at $350 million. "Batman v Superman" has also broken Fandango's record for most tickets sold on their app for a superhero movie, and -- even though the critics are mostly panning the film -- the fan reaction from early screenings seems to be pretty positive.

Directed by Zack Snyder and starring Henry Cavill, Ben Affleck, Gal Gadot, Jesse Eisenberg, Laurence Fishburne, Amy Adams and others, "Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice" is now in theaters.
