"Batman v Superman" EP Calls "Sexuality" Part Of Wonder Woman's Power

Since most of the "Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice" footage revealed so far involves the Man of Steel and the Dark Knight, the scope of Wonder Woman's role in the massive DC Comics movie remains a bit of a mystery. While speaking with "Empire" magazine, director Zack Snyder revealed more about the part Diane Prince will play in the feature film.

As reported by ComicBookMovie, the "Empire" piece reveals that Wonder Woman is over 5000 years old at the start of "BvS" and is through with her superhero career. Zack Snyder told the magazine that Wonder Woman hung up her lasso "because she's seen it all, she has seen what humans can do, so it was very hard for her to come back and fight." But events of the film cause her to step out of retirement.

"BvS" executive producer Deborah Snyder talked about Wonder Woman's role in the film and how her upcoming solo movie, which is set almost 100 years before "Dawn of Justice," will play out. "Her sexuality is part of her power, but she is also a feminist icon," said Deborah Snyder. "Gender has been a hot topic, so it is very timely to bring her back. The way we have approached it, especially in the stand alone movie, that is definitely there. Looking back and doing an origin story -- and it is a period piece -- see the role of women through history. There is a great source of humour in that now. It is so unbelievable you can't even fathom it. You are still making a statement, but having some fun with it."

Gal Gadot spoke about the dual role she plays as Diana Prince and Wonder Woman, saying that "they have the same attitude. Although when she is Diana she tries to blend in, she is not too outgoing. I don't want people to think she is perfect. She can be naughty."

Director Zack Snyder added that "It was incredibly organic how Wonder Woman came into the story." In fact, adding Wonder Woman pushed the film closer to a "Justice League" movie. "The whole concept came of, 'Let's not save anything. Let's try it all.' Then Wonder Woman's entrance made us realize we were much closer to the Justice League than we thought. We realized we were one movie away."

"Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice" opens on March 25; "Wonder Woman" opens on June 23, 2017.
