“Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice” has been in theaters for over a week, and already the film is beginning to see a sharp decline in attendance.
According to Box Office Mojo, “Batman v. Superman” took in $15.35 million yesterday, which is 71.5% less than it made on opening day last Friday. Box Office Mojo points out that this drop was not due to competition from any other major film release, and that since so many US schools are on spring bring, the numbers should have been much higher.
Currently “Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice” has brought in $224 million domestically and $363 million in foreign markets, which brings its global box office total to $587 million. Those are not small numbers by any means, but the sharp drop, from an $81 million Friday to a $15 million Friday, begs the question, why aren’t people seeing “Batman v. Superman” this weekend?
Deadline also reported on these figures and notes that no other superhero film has seen such a sharp drop in ticket sales, except for “X-Men Origins: Wolverine.”
