Created by Dennis O'Neil and Ric Estrada, Lady Shiva first appeared in 1975's Richard Dragon, Kung Fu Fighter #5. Created by Mike W. Barr and Jim Aparo, Katana came onto the scene nearly a decade later, making her debut in 1983's The Brave and the Bold #200. Both characters have been members of the Birds of Prey over the years. Lady Shiva joined the team during the "One Year Later" storyline following the events of Infinite Crisis. Katana herself joined the ranks of the Birds of Prey amid DC's New 52 relaunch.

What's more, both characters have been portrayed in live-action, with Sung-Hi Lee playing Lady Shiva in an episode of The WB's Birds of Prey television series. Meanwhile, Katana made her live-action debut during the third season of The CW's Arrow, in which she was played by Rila Fukushima. Karen Fukuhara later portrayed Katana in director David Ayer's 2016 DC Extended Universe film Suicide Squad.

Written by Vita Ayala, Mark Russell, Che Grayson and Ryan Cady and illustrated by Nikola Čižmešija, Karl Mostert, Belén Ortega, Trevor Scott, Cam Smith and Giuseppe Camuncoli, Batman: Urban Legends #14 goes on sale April 12 from DC Comics.
