The upcoming "Joker War" story arc will see Batman engage in his deadliest battle with the Joker yet. The Dark Knight will also don a new cutting edge suit, featuring blue armored plates. Writer James Tynion IV says that there is a thematic reason for this chic new costume.

"This is the Batman that Batman has been building himself towards, that he thinks is sort of his own happy ending. And this story is very much about Joker seeing the happy ending that Batman wanted to build for himself and destroying all of the pieces that would be necessary to build himself that happy ending," Tynion said in an interview with SyFy Wire.

Tynion also said that the suit will debut in Batman #95, and play a large role in the following issue. Apparently Batman will don the suit in a "less than utopian" situation. Bruce Wayne has always tried to use the Batman persona to make Gotham a better place; Tynion seems to be taking that goal towards its next stage. However, if the Joker has his way that happy ending may not come to pass.

The "Joker War" story arc begins in Batman #95, which goes on sale next Wednesday from DC Comics. The issue is written by James Tynion IV, with art and a cover by Jorge Jimenez.
