Writer Tom King has some specific expectations for how fans will receive the final issues of his Batman run, which comes to an end with the conclusion of "City of Bane."

"What can I tease about the ending? I mean, it's going to break your heart and hopefully make you smile," King told Newsarama. "Yeah. It'll do both at the same time. Batman #83 - you're going to be in tears. Batman #84 you’re going to be really angry, and Batman #85, you’re going to be in tears again, but hopefully for a different reason."

The final arc of King's run has seen Batman take on one of his most vicious foes in Bane, as well as Flashpoint Batman Thomas Wayne. However, King won't be leaving Bruce Wayne completely, as he's set to board Batman/Catwoman sometime in 2020 after the limited series was pushed back from January to accommodate artist Clay Mann.

King has expressed some sadness about leaving the main Batman title, despite still getting to pen the Dark Knight's adventures alongside Selina Kyle. "I'm sad that it's ending. I'm going [to] miss Batman," he explained. "It's kind of like he's been a friend of mine. I know I still get him in Batman/Catwoman, but it's been three, four years of my life now that every two weeks a Batman issue of mine comes out. And to not have that, it's going to be weird."
