The heroes Bat-Family have always been close, working together to fight against the impossible odds that have threatened Gotham City over the years under the watchful eyes of Batman. However, the group has also seen occasional flashes of romance spark between certain members -- such as two prominent heroes from Three Jokers.

While Barbara Gordon and Dick Grayson have flirted and dated more than a few times over the years, Batman: Three Jokers #2 features a romantic moment between Jason Todd and Barbara Gordon. However, it's not clear if this could be the beginning of a real romance or just a passing moment.

Batman Three Jokers Jason Todd Barbara Gordon Kiss

After killing one Joker, Jason's hunt for the other two Jokers was somewhat successful, in that he did end up finding where they've been experimenting with new Joker Toxins. But it also opened him up to being captured by the pair and beaten with a crowbar. Jason survives this beating and is found by Batman and Batgirl. While Batman decides to continue the investigation, Batgirl takes the seriously injured Jason back to her apartment. Jason wakes up hours later in her bed, having recuperated some from the attack. When Batgirl returns, Jason has woken up and taken a shower -- even finding a book of Barbara's on pain management and reading through it.

The two share a moment as Jason opens up about his trauma and how lonely he felt going through his experience. Barabra explains that while he felt alone, it was because the rest of the Bat-Family truly believed he was dead, and that was the only thing keeping them from helping him. She claims the entire Bat-Family would have been there if they'd been able, and the regret does genuinely haunt them. After a moment of silence, the two share a quick, tender kiss. But Barabra quickly turns away, claiming it was a mistake that they shouldn't dwell on, and that they have to find the Joker and bring him down before he does any more damage.

Batgirl Three Jokers Jason Todd Regret

It's a very fitting moment, considering the surprisingly flirtatious relationship the pair have had since the start of the New 52 era. The two have been protective of each other in the past and have fostered a surprisingly strong friendship. They've saved each other in the past, with Jason's self-doubt being the only thing that slowed down the prospect of a romance between the two former sidekicks. In a brief moment during Red Hood and the Outlaws, Jason almost left a voicemail for Barbara, hinting at his true feelings for her. Both have survived terrible trauma, and the pair are always there to offer help to the other when they start to stumble -- despite the fact that Barbara has been getting increasingly closer to Jason Bard in Batgirl.

But throughout, Barbara has looked down at Jason's actions, especially his more vindictive and murderous ones, with genuine disdain. She was furious with his choice to kill one of the Jokers, and make her an accomplice for his actions. She does her best to protect all lives, while Jason will sometimes take his crusade against crime too far. The canon-status of Three Jokers is currently up in the air. But it does engage the prospect of a real relationship between Jason and Barbara, and the complex feelings they have for one another. This could be a hint towards the future for the pair and even a potential way for Barbara to help tether Jason to the real world and help keep him from going on the increasingly dark path that the Jokers have urged him down.
