What Is Batman: The Long Halloween?

Often considered one of the greatest Dark Knight stories ever told, Batman: The Long Halloween was written by Jeph Loeb and illustrated by Tim Sale. The story, which ran for 13 issues starting in 1996, takes place early in Batman's crime fighting career and sees him investigating a killer who murders people on holidays. The Maroni and Falcone families play a key role in the book and documents Dent's transformation into the villainous Two-Face. Elements of Batman: The Long Halloween have influenced a number of different iterations of adaptations of the Dark Knight's adventures, including Matt Reeves' The Batman.

Warner Bros.' animated adaptation of Batman: The Long Halloween originally released in two parts, both of which came out in 2021. The project was directed by Chris Palmer from a script by Tim Sheridan and features Supernatural star Jensen Ackles as the voice of Batman. The film shares its continuity with several other DC animated movies and even features an appearance from Flash and Green Arrow, though in non-speaking roles.
