The announcement is the latest project from Mattel's recently rebooted View-Master an overhaul that transformed the classic toy into a VR-capable device. Like a plastic imitation of Google Cardboard, the new View-Master allows users to integrate a compatible smartphone to perform the heavy lifting. Each experience pack you buy comes with a "film-reel," similar to the ones you would insert into an old-style View-Master. These updated experiences, however, require you to download a corresponding smartphone app to view, using the reel (which is now laid on a table) to initiate augmented reality effects that enhance the viewing session.

The "Batman: The Animated Series Virtual Reality Pack" Comes with a custom black View-Master, decorated with the Batman logo, along with a "Batman: The Animated Series" experience pack.

Available for pre-order now, the product description reveals a standard, but likely enjoyable Batman plot: "Gotham City is under attack and The Joker, The Riddler, and Two-Face are carrying out devious plans to terrorize the city."

The description continues, "Explore the Batcave, fly the legendary Batwing, and go on missions. Help Batman defeat the villains and save the city!"

The part many fans are likely to find most impressive is that Mattel managed to secure an iconic voice cast to act this experience out: Kevin Conroy (Batman), Mark Hamill (The Joker), Tara Strong (Batgirl), and Loren Lester (Robin).

"Batman: The Animated Series Virtual Reality Pack" will be released on November 15, 2016. This collaborative effort between Warner Brothers, DC Entertainment, Mattel, and OTOY is the first entry into View-Master's VR world, which the companies hope to spin off into similar content experiences using other DC Comics characters.
