Steel and Batwoman are two of Superman and Batman's closest allies. Instead of being former students, they've earned the status of peers to two of the world's most skilled and powerful superheroes. And while helping save the world, both heroes individually showcased their skills.

During their latest team-up in Batman/Superman #14, Steel and Batwoman prove that they might actually be the world's finest duo.

After a rouge virus broke into the Bat-Computer to better understand what makes a villain, the new Composite Superman/Batman dragged its two creators to the Moon -- leading an emergency message to be sent to Steel and Batwoman. The pair worked together to reach the moon and try to help their allies. After being forced to deal with robotic copies of DC's most notable villains, a new plan forms for the heroes. While Superman contends with the physical manifestation of the AI -- currently occupying a robotic Composite Superman/Batman body and attacking Metropolis -- his allies work to counter the threat on the moon. Steel proves his tech skills by hacking through the device so that Batman can access it and confront the program directly. This leaves Batwoman to face off with the horde of robot villains.

Both Steel and Batwoman prove themselves to be uniquely skilled for the battle -- when the robotic hordes start to overwhelm the heroes, Steel reveals that he's been saving a "hail mary" in the form of a massive EMP blast. It defeats the robots without damaging Batman or Batwoman's suits, and Steel then figures out how to hack an entire army of killer robots. Meanwhile, Batwoman quickly surveys the battlefield and makes some small adjustments to her suit -- giving herself an edge in the massive battle that follows. She actually holds the line, taking down the army all on her own. After the crisis is over, Superman and Batman reveal to Steel and Batwoman there's a reason they were the ones contacted above any other heroes.

In fact, Superman and Batman chose them specifically because they could do more than just handle the threats that require the World's Finest: they could also lead the rest of the hero community on their own, effectively serving as the ultimate fallback for Superman and Batman. Both Batwoman and Steel proved their own individual merit during the mission. But it's also a solid showcase of the pair working together as a team. The two are quietly supportive of each other, bantering with ease and helping each other up when they're knocked down. It's a surprisingly effective partnership.

Their newest team-up proves that the pair should work more closely in the future, and continue to serve as the real World's Finest.
