The famous Hollywood Walk of Fame is home to several thousand bronze stars, each one commemorating a different cultural icon, from famous actors and singers to fictional characters.

The Walk of Fame Selection Committee recently announced more names that will be added to the Walk, including Julia Roberts, Spike Lee and Batman. These icons were selected from a list of hundreds from all over the industry and their names will sit atop their very own bronze stars in 2020.

Batman joins a short list of 18 fictional characters to get a star on the Walk of Fame. He will join the likes of Mickey Mouse, Bugs Bunny and Godzilla. It's fitting, as this year DC and Batman fans are celebrating the Dark Knight's 80th anniversary. He was created by Bob Kane and Bill Finger and introduced in 1939's Detective Comics #27.

Since then, the Caped Crusader has appeared in hundreds of different comic books, films, video games and shows. He has spawned multiple spinoffs, superheroes and villains. It's fair to say that there few people who haven't heard of Batman or his famously spacious utility belt, even if they have never picked up a comic book.
