Even though he doesn't have any actual superpowers like many other DC heroes, Batman still managed to become one of the most popular and respected superheroes ever. He's been around for many decades and experienced thousands of adventures since his first appearance all the way back in May 1939. Spider-Man, on the other hand, is a younger hero in comparison to Batman, since his first comic book appearance happened in August 1962. Since Marvel and DC crossovers are fascinating to many readers, these two superheroes have met in the comics before - and didn't get along very much. Batman would still fit well into Spider-Man's world nonetheless and here are 5 Spider-Man villains he'd manage to defeat (and 5 he'd lose to).

10 Would Beat: Kraven The Hunter

Batman may not have superpowers at his disposal, but given enough time to discover his enemies' weaknesses, he might be able to defeat Kraven the Hunter, albeit not without great difficulties. In the comics, Kraven is regularly using potion which gives him superhuman abilities and makes his body more durable. He can withstand being struck by someone with superpowers, has enhanced senses such as sight, smell, and hearing, and can, therefore, track his enemies. Batman's greatest chance at defeating Kraven would be using his electronic equipment against him, blinding Kraven or robbing him of his hearing, and then quickly finishing him off before Kraven can regain his bearing.

9 Would Lose: Venom

Eddie Brock as Venom grinning over a defeated Spider-Man.

To fight Venom and win is no easy task, as Spider-Man himself learned multiple times when the symbiote got the best of him. Venom is extremely strong and resilient which would make him a tough opponent to beat for any superhero, Batman included. Batman might defeat Venom if he was facing someone who would be the symbiote's new host, but don't bet on the caped crusader just yet. In some comic book storylines, Venom is not only super strong but also has the ability to replicate himself. He can be stopped by using fire and sonic waves, but unless Batman figures this out before he actually fights Venom for the first time, his chances don't look good.

8 Would Beat: The Vulture

The original Vulture Adiran Toomes attacks in a Marvel Comic

The Vulture may be older than most of the Spider-Man iconic villains, but that doesn't mean he should be underestimated. Without his special harness which allows him to fly, he's not as strong as Batman and the Vulture certainly doesn't know martial arts as well as the caped crusader. He could, of course, try and escape Batman by flying away but Batman can always use his grappling hook to go after the Vulture or even use his bat-plane if the grappling hook wasn't enough. The Vulture would probably get in a strong punch or two, but as long as Batman manages to separate him from his harness, the Vulture's down for the count.

7 Would Lose: Carnage

Even if you're not familiar with Carnage, his name itself suggests that this villain shouldn't be taken lightly, not if you value your health and your life. Carnage is much darker even than Venom himself, or pretty much any other better known Spider-Man villain, to be honest.

Before his host Cletus Kasady become Carnage, he already was a serial killer who committed well over a dozen murders. Carnage has a lot of abilities, including extreme strength, shape-shifting, and healing. What's more, even when Spider-Man and Venom joined forces, they still had a problem to defeat Carnage, so Batman himself probably wouldn't be able to do it.

6 Would Beat: Sandman

Batman is a formidable fighter but his biggest advantage isn't his muscles (or even Bruce Wayne's credit card) but his mind. He's brilliant at coming up with a strategy of defeating even those people who are much stronger than him or have superpowers. As his name suggests, Sandman has the ability to transform his body into the sand and harden it or shape it according to his wishes. Batman's fists wouldn't probably be much of a use to him in a fight against Sandman, but if Batman stayed ahead of Sandman and would fight n a place which he knows well and would use water against Sandman, he'd probably win the fight.

5 Would Lose: Green Goblin

Of all the great villains Spider-Man has faced throughout the years, probably none has affected his life as much as Green Goblin did. After all, it was Green Goblin who killed Peter Parker's first great love, Gwen Stacy. Similarly to Batman, Green Goblin uses technological instruments to his advantage, but he also has superhuman strength, reflexes, and healing. All of this makes him a formidable opponent whom even the dark knight would struggle to bring down. Considering Green Goblin's unstable mental health, it'd also be difficult for Batman to guess what he might do next, to predict his future steps.

4 Would Beat: Kingpin

Kingpin

Batman isn't very fond of people with powers he doesn't understand, so when facing a new enemy, he always does his best to find out what makes the villain tick, find out how his powers work and how he can be defeated, what's his weakness. In Wilson Fisk's case, a part of Batman's task is cut for him since Fisk doesn't have superpowers.

He's still very strong, though, and has a lot of hired lackeys at his disposal. Batman would have to take Fisk's empire apart from the inside and then fight the big boss himself in hand-to-hand combat, which wouldn't be easy but still manageable for the dark knight.

3 Would Lose: Black Cat

When he can use his fighting abilities or detective skills (or both of these combined), Batman is at his strongest, at least when it comes to defeating villains. However, even Batman himself isn't without weaknesses. And one of his greatest weaknesses is beautiful women, more specifically, beautiful women who also double as supervillains and cat burglars. Rings any bells? Black Cat is intelligent, seductive, and unpredictable. She's a good fighter, albeit not on the same level as Batman, but what plays into her advantage is her ability to change one's luck to her advantage. Batman may be strong but he'd have trouble defeating bad luck.

2 Would Beat: Doctor Octopus

Doctor Octopus

Batman's mind, one of his greatest powers, works 110 percent during dangerous situations, and he also possesses rich technological knowledge that would assist him in defeating Doctor Octopus. Doctor Octopus has been battling Spider-Man since 1963 but still hasn't managed to defeat him. He's strong and powerful, but the same thing which lends him his power could also be used against him (his mechanical arms). As long as Batman stays away from the mechanical arms and doesn't let them grab him and squeeze the life out of him, he should be alright, and he can find other ways how to render the arms useless and knock Doctor Octopus out.

1 Would Lose: Hobgoblin

As it's been established above, Green Goblin would probably manage to defeat Batman. And since Hobgoblin has a similar set of skills, it's safe to assume that the fight between him and Batman also wouldn't end victoriously for the caped crusader. Hobgoblin first appeared in Spider-Man comics in 1983. His civil identity is of the billionaire Roderick Kingsley. Kingsley became the Hobgoblin when he discovered Norman Osborn's lair after Osborn had died, and used Osborn's equipment. He also injected himself with a new Green Goblin formula, which means he's possibly even stronger than the original Green Goblin was and would, therefore, present an even bigger challenge for Batman.
