A new trailer for DC's Batman/Spawn further teases the Court of Owls' presence in the upcoming crossover.

DC Comics posted a new trailer for Batman/Spawn on the publisher's YouTube channel on Oct. 16. While showing some previously released cover art starring the two vigilantes, the trailer also teases the Court of Owls' role in the story by including the masks worn by the criminal organization's members.

Batman and Spawn Will Face One Another in December

DC announced the Court of Owls would factor into Batman/Spawn earlier this September. While major details are being kept under wraps at this time, the publisher revealed Spawn becomes the Court of Owls' weapon in the organization's effort to defeat the Dark Knight once and for all. The synopsis for Batman/Spawn reads, "Two dark heroes, cursed by tragedy, find their paths again crossing…but not by choice! What sinister foe is at work, pitting the Dark Knight against the Hellspawn? From the shadows of Gotham City to New York City, this epic event is the blockbuster you’ve been waiting almost two decades for!"

Batman/Spawn is written by Todd McFarlane and features art and cover art by Greg Capullo. "Look, this is really simple," McFarlane previously said of the crossover. "I get to play with one of the greatest comic characters ever (Batman), get to reunite with amazing artist Greg Capullo, AND am able to mix in my own creation (Spawn) into the storyline. These are the types of projects many of us creators in the comic industry only get to be a part of a few times in our careers," He continued, "My goal with this book is two-fold; First to just make it as fun a read as possible both visually and story wise. Then second, I hope this book will continue to add to some of the many reasons any of us actually collect superhero comic books. That's to release an 'Event' book that folks will remember for years to come. This should be one heck of a nice holiday gift!"

Speaking to CBR in a recent interview, Capullo further touched on the Court of Owls' presence in the story. "I just thought it had a lot of potential to make an interesting story with Spawn and Batman here," he explained. "As Todd pointed out, they've been around for 400 years, under Batman's nose, without his knowledge. That mystique alone makes it something that's very salable, and I knew that if I gave this element to Todd, he'd be able to come up with something cool. Right away, out of the gate, he's got me creating a more fierce and dangerous Talon. I knew that if I gave him something, he'd give me more fun material to work with, and he has."

Batman/Spawn features an array of variant cover art that comes from McFarlane, Capullo, Gabriele Dell'Otto, Sean Murphy, Francesco Mattina, J. Scott Campbell, Jim Lee, Joshua Middleton, Brett Booth and Jason Fabok. The one-shot releases December 13 from DC.
