Tim Drake deliberates on how to move forward with his new boyfriend Bernard Dowd in the upcoming Batman: Urban Legends #10.

The holiday-themed story "A Carol of Bats," written by Meghan Fitzmartin and illustrated by Alberto Albuquerque Jimenez, picks up the threads left behind from the "Sum of Our Parts," which ran in Batman: Urban Legends Issues #4-6. A preview for the story shows Tim confronting the villain Tusk alongside Nightwing, helping an injured Bruce Wayne patch himself up and finally giving Bernard a call.

According to DC, "A Carol of Bats" takes place in the aftermath of Fear State, the current event embroiling the Batman books which sees the city turned into a police state thanks to the machinations of Scarecrow and the tech magnate Simon Saint. Tim must assuage the doubts of his mentor Bruce, who is convinced that he has failed Gotham City, while also confronting his own feelings of fighting crime and being a loyal partner to Bernard.

"The response to Tim's story has been more than I could have hoped," Fitzmartin said. "It’s always exciting to share Tim's journey with fans, and close 2021 with this special holiday story in Batman: Urban Legends #10."

"Sum of Our Parts," written by Fitzmartin and illustrated by Belén Ortega, served as a character study for the third Robin. Tim went on a journey of self-discovery throughout the tale, reunited with his old classmate Bernard after several years apart, defeated a group of cultists who called themselves the Chaos Monsters, and finally worked up the courage to ask Bernard out on a date.

Tim Drake has previously been associated with fellow Bat Family member Stephanie Brown, also known as Spoiler, the fourth Batgirl and the fourth Robin. His desire to explore a relationship with Bernard marks a notable change as Tim explores a bisexual identity and finally decides who he wants to be outside of his role as Batman's sidekick.

Aside from "A Carol of Bats," other stories in Batman: Urban Legends #10 include the conclusion of the three-part saga "Dark Knight of the Soul," which stars Azrael and is written by Dan Watters and illustrated by Nikola Cizmesija. Writer Tini Howard and artist Christian Duce tackle a holiday-themed Nightwing story entitled "The Bats of Christmas Past," and the issue also features the finale of a two-part tale exploring the villains Tweedle Dum and Tweedle Dee, written by Sam Johns and illustrated by Karl Mostert.

Batman: Urban Legends #10 goes on sale Dec. 14 from DC Comics.
