With the first Batman trailer dropping, fans got their first look at Robert Pattinson as the new Dark Knight, giving a grittier and darker performance then we're used to seeing from Batman. Fans are very excited to see the new incarnation of the Bat and have even gone so far as to call him the best Batman yet, even with small sample size.

When it comes to the mantle of the Batman, several have donned the cape before Robert Pattinson but one name, in particular, stands out, and that's Christian Bale's interpretation of Batman. Christopher Nolan and Bale are what started the superhero movie trend with their take on a more realistic Batman and the iconic villains. Between the two actors, who's really the best Batman?

10 Christian Bale: Most Realistic Take On Batman

Christian Bale Batman Begins

Before Christian Bale, we had plenty of live-action Batman movies that underwhelmed and therefore a lot of fans were weary about the new trilogy. But after the first movie, the trilogy only got better and we saw Batman in a way we had never seen him before.

We didn't see the goofy villains with a crazy diabolical plan or cheesy one-liners or unnecessary gimmicks we saw in the first couple of live-action movies. We saw a more realistic take on the villains and the plot, as well as a new Batman, one who was darker, and a lot more qualified to be a hero.

9 Robert Pattinson: First Batman To Fight Several Villains In One Movie

We've seen some iconic villains in just about every Batman movie, and sometimes even two in one movie. But the new Batman movie not only has one or two, but rumored to have at least 3-4, including The Penguin, The Riddler, Harvey Dent, and Catwoman, with potential for a lot more villains in his rogue gallery.

Batinson has his work cut out for him and fans should be extremely excited to see plenty of action and thrills from our group of villains taking on Batman.

8 Christian Bale: Best Bruce Wayne

Most Batman movies will ignore Bruce Wayne and focus more on the plot and Batman, or the villains who Batman faces. Bruce Wayne is just a minor character compared to his alter ego, but what many filmmakers fail to realize is that Bruce Wayne gives Batman a human element and helps the fans and audience relate more to the larger than life character.

This is something that Christian Bale did really well, playing the billionaire playboy without a care in the world and changing into a completely different person behind closed doors. He dealt with real problems, he dealt with emotions, something we had never seen prior.

7 Robert Pattinson: The Suit

Robert Pattinson as The Batman

The new Batman suit has a lot of fans raving about it as its different than others yet still amazing. It looks like it was put together and not as fancy as other suits, it also has more freedom of movement and it has the unique bat symbol made up of guns.

It's one of the most realistic suits to date and is one that doesn't distract the viewers with fancy gadgets or armor that looks hard to move in. It also ties into the dark and gritty persona of the Batman.

6 Christian Bale: Iconic Villains

Heath Ledger as Joker in The Dark Knight Rises

One thing that stole the show in the Dark Knight Trilogy was the iconic performances of the villains. From Scarecrow in Batman Begins to the Joker, all the way to Harvey Dent and Bane, each actor put on an amazing performance as their respective villain.

We have still yet to have a performance like Heath Ledger's Joker or one as bone-chilling as Tom Hardy's as Bane. Although the villains in the new Batman movie have a lot of potential, it will be hard to compete with the performances of the Dark Knight Trilogy.

5 Robert Pattinson: Darker, Grittier Storyline

Most Batman movies deal with cheesy villains or ones with a one-dimensional and stereotypical plan. For this iteration, we see a much darker and creepier Riddler, a more grizzled Penguin, and a storyline that involves an actual mystery versus action sequences and explosions.

It tests the character and we see Batman in a new light. It's going to be a story about Batman like we've never seen before, a story showing us why he's the world's greatest detective.

4 Christian Bale: More Experienced Batman

One part fans loved to see in the first movie is actually seeing Bruce Wayne's training and how he became Batman. We saw him training with the League of Shadows, mold his suit to his liking, and we saw him begin his journey and grow as a hero throughout his time in the three movies.

He goes through trial and error, heartbreak, death, and a lot of other things that shape him into one of the best Dark Knights in live-action history.

3 Robert Pattinson: Supporting Cast

Sure we've seen Selina Kyle aka Catwoman in the Dark Knight Trilogy but the portrayal didn't do this character justice. Like Batman, Catwoman has a particular set of skills that make her one of the best female DC characters, and in the short glimpses we saw of the character, we should get excited about her dynamic with Batman.

We also see a younger, less experienced Jim Gordon who is rising up in the ranks and slowly becoming the esteemed commissioner we all know and love. Another great supporting character we see (or hear) is Alfred.

2 Christian Bale: Set A High Bar

The Dark Knight Cropped

Since Christian Bale's performance, all the other actors that have taken the cowl before or after have been compared to Bale. Whether it was George Clooney, Ben Affleck, even Robert Pattinson today, they are all compared to the Dark Knight and are expected to do just as good or better.

He was met with a lot of backlashes but the haters and naysayers quickly silenced themselves once they say how good Christian Bale was and have never looked back. To a lot of fans, Christian Bale is the real Batman and everyone else is just trying to be like him.

1 Robert Pattinson: Potential For The Character

There is so much about the trailer that had fans excited but nothing excites the fans more than the potential for the character. We've seen the fight scenes, the villains, the action, the feel of the story as a whole and we know its different than anything we've ever seen.

There are little to no fancy or out of this world gadgets, the Batmobile, the suit, and all his Bat gadgets look homemade and real. Even the Riddler's costume is intimidating and nothing like we've ever seen from the character before. There is even talk on expanding on the character.
