Additionally, the Matt Reeves-directed film will reportedly be an origin story, which is why Warner Bros. sought a younger actor for the part. This will take the role in a different direction from Ben Affleck's portrayal, as the Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice and Justice League star Affleck appeared as an older, world-weary version of the character in Batman v Superman.

Rumors from February suggested Warner Bros. was eyeing Pattinson to replace Affleck as Bruce Wayne/Batman. However, most didn't consider him a frontrunner until recent reports suggested otherwise. The award-winning actor has received plenty of praise for his performance in 2018's Good Time and 2014's The Rover. Over the years, he has received awards for his work in the Twilight film franchise, Water for Elephants and Life.
