WARNING: The following contains spoilers for Detective Comics #1032, by Peter J. Tomasi, Brad Walker, Andrew Hennessy, Dave McCaig, and Rob Leigh, on sale now.

While most of the Bat-Family reformed stronger than ever to emerge triumphant at the end of the "Joker War," the most personal of Batman's allies within the group was nowhere to be seen after a violent falling out with the Dark Knight: Damian Wayne, Robin. And with the rest of the Bat-Family in jeopardy in the face of a resurgent Hush, Batman and Robin reunite to set aside their differences before embarking on a joint rescue mission to stop Thomas Elliot from carrying out his twisted vendetta against Bruce Wayne.

Damian and his father became estranged over his antics with the Teen Titans and the decision to descend back into openly employing lethal force against his enemies. Trained and conditioned by the League of Assassins to become a hardened killer just like his mother Talia al Ghul, Damian's time in the Bat-Family led him to adopt a relatively more merciful approach to crimefighting as his use of lethal force directly clashed with his father's moral values. This would be tested during the New 52 before reaching its breaking point in the immediate aftermath in the wake of KGBeast's devastating attack on Nightwing.

Damian hunted down KGBeast intending to kill him in revenge for shooting Dick Grayson in the head, causing severe brain trauma to the original Boy Wonder. After a pitched battle, KGBeast managed to barely escape with his life but not before Damian cut off his left hand. Damian was also revealed to secretly imprison Titans' villains and nearly executed Deathstroke before Red Arrow murdered the assassin instead. After Batman discovered his son's activities, he ordered the Titans to shut down before Damian abandoned the mantle of Robin after a heated confrontation with his father, preferring to go it alone rather than stick to the Bat Family's rules.

After discovering Damian had broken into the Batcave to steal his Black Casebook, Batman used clues left behind to track down his son to the disused site of the Gotham World's Fair. The Dark Knight discovered his son had set up a makeshift headquarters at the amusement park. Batman discovers that Damian is still mourning the death of surrogate father figure Alfred Pennyworth, a traumatic incident that shook the Bat-Family to its core. While the father and son come to blows, the two settle down after airing their grievances with one another. As the two set out to raid Hush's hideout and rescue the rest of the Bat Family, Batman privately admits to himself that he is open to the possibility of his son returning to the mantle of Robin in the future should he get his murderous impulses under control.

While Batman and Robin have set aside their differences in the face of a mutual enemy, the Dynamic Duo still has a long way to go to achieve a full reconciliation. Still, the team-up is a big step towards Damian being welcomed back into the Bat-Family and the possibility of him becoming Robin rather than his own free agent.

Damian is always going to be the Bat-Family's biggest wild card and is more violent and lethal than Jason Todd after being trained since infancy to become the ultimate killer. But back alongside his father, Damian might be back under the more helpful influence he needs to overcome his darker nature.
