Batman prequel series Gotham is now available to watch on Warner Bros.' streaming platform HBO Max.

"Just dropping in to say Gotham has finally arrived on [HBO Max]," posted Hero Mode, HBO Max's Twitter account for all things fandom, with a picture of Camren Bicondova's Selina Kyle. The announcement means that DC fans can now watch Gotham alongside other Batman-related content like the animated series Harley Quinn and Young Justice and the DC Extended Universe films Birds of Prey and Zack Snyder's Justice League while on the same platform.

Developed by Bruno Heller, Gotham aired on Fox for five seasons and 100 episodes between 2014 and 2019. The superhero crime drama series was developed as a prequel to the Batman mythos, focusing on a young James Gordon, played by Ben McKenzie, during his early days at the Gotham City Police Department. Gotham also followed a young Bruce Wayne (David Mazouz) immediately after his parents' murder as well as several notable Bat-centric villains a decade or more before they would become part of the Caped Crusader's rogues gallery.

Gotham's Creators Are Also Behind Pennyworth

Heller and Gotham executive producer Danny Cannon are also the minds behind Pennyworth, a DC origin series for the Wayne family butler Alfred Pennyworth. The series stars Jack Bannon as Pennyworth, a former British SAS soldier, who forms a security company in 1960s London and goes to work with young billionaire Thomas Wayne and his wife Martha before they become Bruce Wayne’s parents. Pennyworth was initially developed as a prequel to Gotham, with Bannon playing a younger version of Alfred Pennyworth that was previously portrayed by Sean Pertwee in the Fox series. However, Pennyworth's ties to Gotham have been left ambiguous since the prequel series began airing in 2019. Pennyworth's third season, subtitled The Origin of Batman's Butler, will premiere on HBO Max on Oct. 6.

Pennyworth is the only live-action DC series currently airing that is primarily centered on Batman-centric characters until Gotham Knights premieres on The CW in 2023. The upcoming superhero drama series is set in the aftermath of Bruce Wayne's murder and follows his rebellious adopted son, Turner Hayes (Oscar Morgan), who forms an unlikely alliance with the children of Batman's enemies when they are all framed for killing the Dark Knight. Gotham Knights, not to be confused with the upcoming DC video game of the same name, also stars Navia Robinson as Carrie Kelley, Fallon Smythe as Harper Row and Misha Collins as Harvey Dent.

All five seasons of Gotham are now available to stream on HBO Max.
