WARNING: The following contains spoilers from Batman #104 by James Tynion IV, Ryan Benjamin, Danny Miki, Bengal, Guillem March, David Baron, and Clayton Cowles, on sale now.

The last time anyone saw Poison Ivy, she had vowed revenge on humanity. That included her occasional partner in life and crime Harley Quinn, who she blamed for the loss of something important to her. Furious that the Eden she'd created in Gotham's Robinson Park had been destroyed during the "Joker War", she dubbed herself Queen Ivy.

While Ivy looked ready to wreak havoc on Gotham, those plans appear to have been postponed as of Batman #104.

Batman and Harley Quinn have been abducted by Batman's old friend turned enemy, Ghost Maker. The rest of the Bat-Family have no leads on their whereabouts until Ivy literally spells their location out with her vines to Spoiler and Orphan. Harley needs all the help she can get, as soon as possible, as she and Batman are at Ghost Maker's mercy. He's left Clownhunter with the means to take the revenge on Harley he's recently failed to achieve, and has a sword to her throat.

Even though Harley's currently on the side of the angels (and Bats), Clownhunter has an understandable reason for wanting her dead. She was with the Joker on the night he killed Clownhunter's parents. She's gone on to break away from the Joker and become one of Batman's proteges, which is not going to do anything to change Clownhunter's mind about her. Ivy's decision to help Harley isn't completely unprompted, as Harley's tried to stay in contact with her, in her own way. She saved a poison ivy plant from destruction in Robinson Park and has been speaking to it as if she was carrying on a conversation with Ivy.

It's a technique Harley learned from her time as a therapist. At the time, it seemed like she might even be saying goodbye to Ivy, even kissing the plant. She might have been communicating with Ivy without knowing. Being able to hear Harley speak through a plant isn't beyond Ivy's abilities. Even if she wasn't specifically listening through the plant, it isn't outside of the realm of possibility that Ivy would want to keep tabs on Harley despite their recent falling out.

That said, Ivy's interest in Harley may not be benign and her help may come with strings attached. She might want to get the gang back together, which would clash with the new leaf Harley's turned over. Harley could have a role to play in whatever plans Queen Ivy has for Gotham. It's also possible that her anger at the destruction of Eden may not have abated. Ivy simply may not want anything to happen to Harley before she can exact revenge on her.

Ivy may also want to get as many members of the Bat-Family in one place. If she's planning on becoming the threat to Gotham she's capable of being, luring as many of Batman's allies to Arkham Asylum before unleashing her powers on them would do it. Whatever Ivy's reasons, she is providing aid to Harley and Batman. It may be final mercy before she declares war on Gotham or a sign that Queen Ivy will be more benevolent than she first seemed. Either way, she's clearly still interested in the fate of one human in Gotham.
