Spinning out of the pages of The Batman Who Laughs, the Grim Knight, a gun-toting alternate reality version of the Dark Knight will be starring in his own one-shot, the aptly-titled The Batman Who Laughs: The Grim Knight.

With an A-list creative team that includes Scott Snyder, James Tynion IV and Eduardo Risso, this special promises to take a closer look at a Batman who operates like Marvel's Punisher. In addition to solicited covers by Jock and Gabriele Dell'Otto, the Grim Knight one-shot will also have a retro-style cover by Phillip Tan that Tynion revealed on Twitter today.

The cover, which shows a firearm-wielding Grim Knight embracing a gun-wielding Harley Quinn in his massive cape in front of a full moon, is a homage to one of the most well-known Batman images of the 1980s.

As Tynion noted, "This legit might be the coolest variant on anything I've ever written for DC."

This cover directly references Todd McFarlane's famous cover to Batman #423, which depicts the DC Universe's Dark Knight in a similar position. This cover even includes the classic DC Comics "bullet" logo that hasn't appeared in years and writes the special's title in a font that's reminiscent of Batman's 1980s logo.

While this is one of DC's many nods to Batman's history as part of his 80th anniversary celebration, it's worth noting that McFarlane drew a homage to his own work for the cover to 2013's Spawn #230.

Check out Jock's equally outstanding standard cover for the issue, along with its full solicitation text below.
