SPOILER WARNING: The following article contains major spoilers for Batman and the Outsiders #4 by Bryan Hill, Dexter Soy, Veronica Gandini and Clayton Cowles, on sale now.

Batman and the Outsiders has proven to be one of Bruce Wayne's biggest challenges in recent times, as both a father and a leader. He's reactivated the team, but as this DC Rebirth story rolls on, it's far from smooth sailing as the man in charge of this covert ops unit, Black Lightning, finds himself at odds with Batman's ideology, as he views the unit as students of war, not just soldiers.

This led to him and the Dark Knight butting heads, especially on their first case: Hunting and rescuing the kidnapped Sofia Ramos from Ra's al Ghul and the League of Assassins. However, their job in the "Slice of Death" arc just got a whole lot harder, as Sofia has been training with the Demon's Head and, unfortunately, she's finally embraced her new role as Ra's' successor, now going by the nickname Babylon.

Sofia was one of the girls whose families were experimented on in the Ark Program years before. Sadly, they were the only family Batman could rescue from the project, which involved billionaires creating metahumans using their own science cells. Her mom subsequently died from the experiments and her dad would be killed by Ishmael (one of the experiments Ra's co-opted) to kickstart this relaunch.

After the heroes tried to keep Sofia -- whose powers include rapid regeneration which makes her near-immortal -- safe and sound, Ishmael found and defeated the Outsiders, taking her to Ra's at his new lair in Khadym. There, he's been grooming her, using her hatred and convincing her she's meant to be his apprentice and a weapon to reshape society. She's an aspiring doctor, after all, and this is how Ra's wants her to cure the world.

She's reluctant at first, but he puts her in the heat of battle against his own assassins, not to mention Ishmael, to remind her the world is a cruel place, and that he simply commits terrorism for the greater good. And so, she slaughters his legion, earning the title of Demon's Flame and, along with Ishmael, she realizes they're meant to be a deadly Trinity even Batman would have a hard time dealing with. It's a dream team, as Ishmael, who also has healing powers and can turn himself into a pseudo-bomb, already soundly beat the Outsiders -- Cassandra Cain, Duke Thomas aka Signal, Kaliber (a man-machine hybrid similar to Cable and new recruit at Batman's behest), Katana and, of course, Black Lightning.

The team is in disarray currently, as Lightning and Batman aren't on good terms, while Katana is struggling emotionally with her husband being trapped in her sword, and Cassandra's helping Duke get over his fears of being a vigilante and messing things up. Throw in Kaliber, who's been a shifty arms dealer in Markovia, and you can see why the distrust is so prevalent in the squad. If they don't get their acts together, Sofia alone could spell trouble for them, as she's advanced quickly as the new hitwoman on the block.

She was bred for war and now, being christened like this, Babylon faces her first test -- killing these heroes as a sacrifice to her new father. For Ra's, it's another litmus test, as he's failed in the past with other proteges such as Bruce Wayne, his daughter Talia and their son, Damian. He's also tried to use other villains like Azrael, Red Hood and Deathstroke to help fill this void, but in Sofia he seems to have finally found the ultimate instrument of destruction.

Batman and the Outsiders #5 goes on sale Sept. 11.
