The first full-length trailer for Batman Ninja debuted today at Tokyo Comic Con, offering a detailed -- not to mention gorgeous -- look at the upcoming anime feature from Warner Bros. Japan. Its release was accompanied by a new poster.

The footage is in Japanese, without English subtitles, but it's certainly not necessary to understand the words to appreciate this preview of the film, which relocates many of Gotham City's best-known residents to feudal Japan. There's the Dark Knight and The Joker, of course, but also Nightwing, the Red Hood, Red Robin, Robin, Catwoman, Alfred Pennyworth, Harley Quinn, Catwoman, The Penguin and Gorilla Grodd -- at least for starters. The pace is so frenetic, there are likely character's we've missed.

Announced in October at New York Comic Con, where a clip was screened, Batman Ninja is directed by Junpei Mizusaki from a story written by Kazuki Nakashima (Kill La Kill). The characters were designed by Takashi Okazaki (Afro Samurai).

Arriving next year on Blu-ray and DVD, Batman Ninja is only the latest foray into anime by the Dark Knight, following 2008’s direct-to-video Batman: Gotham Knight, which bridged the gap between Batman Begins and The Dark Knight with a series of anime shorts, each produced by a different studio.
