Last week, Batman #100's 1:25 variant cover by Jorge Jimenez revealed the Dark Knight will temporarily receive a new blue costume. Writer James Tynion IV has now explained that, while this will not be the Dark Knight's main costume going forward, it does play an important part in the upcoming "Joker War" crossover, which sees the Clown Prince of Crime looking to take down his mortal enemy once and for all.

"This is NOT Batman's new costume moving forward," Tynion explained on Twitter. "This is a costume that appears in the 'Joker War' story, but is not Batman's new suit moving forward. We only see him wear it in a dream sequence. It has a very, very specific story purpose."

Since the costume was originally revealed, Tynion also noted that the costume would debut in Batman #95. A preview for Batman #96 seems to tease the dream sequence about which Tynion is talking, showing an older Bruce Wayne and Alfred reunited once again.

Batman #95, by James Tynion IV, Jorge Jimenez, Tomeu Morey and Clayton Cowles, is on sale now from DC.
