Of all the villains in Batman's infamous rogues gallery, none are perhaps more frighteningly feral than Man-Bat, with the winged antagonist starring in his own comic book miniseries beginning in February.

A preview of the opening issue -- by writer Dave Wielgosz, artist Sumit Kumar and colorist Romulo Fajardo, Jr. -- sees Kirk Langstrom hit rock bottom as his wife Francine discovers he has been developing the experimental serum to transform into Man-Bat once again. As the villain takes flight, the Caped Crusader faces his old foe in the Gotham City skyline.

  • For years Kirk Langstrom has struggled with his monstrous alter ego, Man-Bat, and the serum that transformed him. But he’s finally hit rock bottom following a devastating setback, and he’s going to take his anger out on every single citizen of Gotham City. Will the combined might of Batman and the GCPD be enough to stop Langstrom once and for all? Or will this just be the start of Man-Bat’s devastation?

Created by Frank Robbins, Neal Adams and Julius Schwartz and debuting in 1970's Detective Comics #400, Kirk Langstrom battled his animalistic addiction to transform into Man-Bat. Toeing the line between antihero and outright villain, Man-Bat has menaced Gotham in everything from comics and video games to the series premiere episode of Batman: The Animated Series.

Man-Bat #1, by Dave Wielgosz and Sumit Kumar, goes on sale Feb. 2 from DC.
