A series of behind-the-scenes photos from the set of Batgirl included a mural featuring Michael Keaton's Batman. The photos were shared by Pim-Pam, a creative design agency based in Glasgow, Scotland, where Batgirl is currently filming. Of the four photos shared by the agency of the set of Gotham City, one showed a dilapidated mural of Keaton in his original Batman costume, who played the Dark Knight in 1989's Batman and Batman Returns in 1992. According to Pim-Pam, the set will see "stunts, explosions and superheroes over the next few days" on set.RELATED: Batgirl Set Video, Photos Appear to Introduce the DCEU's First Trans Character

The mural shown in this most recent set photo is slightly different than a previous mural spotted on the Glasgow set earlier this year, which also depicted Keaton, but sporting a newer version of the Batman costume worn in his original films. The biggest difference in his new suit was the mask and the suit's insignia, which blended more smoothly into his armor than in previous designs.

Keaton's appearance in the upcoming DC Extended Universe film was teased in December 2021, before being officially confirmed when Batgirl star Leslie Grace, who will portray the titular hero Barbara Gordon/Batgirl in the film, welcomed the veteran Batman actor to the film. Keaton is also set to reprise his Batman role in The Flash, alongside star Ezra Miller and DCEU Batman Ben Affleck.

While it's unknown exactly what role Keaton's Batman will play in Batgirl, the actor recently spoke about being asked to return to the character for The Flash. "I thought, 'Boy, what would that be like?' And then, coincidentally, there were murmurs, and I got a call from Warner Bros. They wanted to talk to me about something and there were hints of Batman," Keaton said. "It has to be good. There's no reason to do it if it's not good. It's not gonna really change anything."

Batgirl was first announced in March 2017 with Joss Whedon attached to write, direct and produce the film at the time, though he departed the project nearly a year later. However, it was confirmed in 2021 that Adil El Arbi and his directing partner Bilall Fallah would take over the project with a script from Christina Hodson, who wrote for The Flash and Birds of Prey (And the Fantabulous Emancipation of One Harley Quinn).

"With Batgirl, we hope to take the audience on a fun ride and see a different side of Gotham," producer Kristin Burr said in May 2021. "Christina's script is crackling with spirit. Adil and [co-director Bilall Fallah] have an excited and joyous energy which is infectious, making them the perfect filmmakers for this Batproject. And I’m just psyched I get to be part of the DC universe, which is super cool."

Batgirl will premiere exclusively on HBO Max in 2022 and has yet to receive an exact release date.
