In "To Quote a Phrase," I spotlight memorable quotes from comic books.

I continue a month of "To Quote a Phrase" by spotlighting Batman's classic test of his hypothesis regarding the Hyperclan's deadly secret.

I've already featured another awesome quote from Grant Morrison, Howard Porter and John Dell's JLA opening arc, and you know what? There are too many to stop there! I think I'll even add ANOTHER JLA bit later!

For now, to recap, the Hyperclan have invaded Earth, disguising themselves as benevolent visitors but soon becoming tyrannical. The Justice League have investigated and the Hyperclan attacked, capturing Superman and seemingly killing Batman. Of course, the thing is with Batman, you can't underestimate him and while the Hyperclan confidently torture Superman, Batman found a way into their headquarters and slowly took them apart, leading to the earlier quote I spotlighted.

Okay, so we pick up from that moment, where one of the Hyperclan investigated Batman and didn't report back, so three more members of the Hyperclan go to check on their missing comrade and then they find him, trussed up with a note that says Batman knows their secret...

They think that they have him cornered...

But really, he has them right where he wants them...

Bad-ass.

And the reaction of the Hyperclan's leader (who already had a classic underestimation quote about Batman) to what ONE MAN has done is amazing...

What a stunning opening arc of the series.

And there's a future bit that's just as good that I'll feature soon.

By the way, I think "You're martians, aren't you?" is really what THE quote is (the nonchalant delivery is amazing), but I will accept "Ready when you are," too.

Okay, folks, if you care to suggest cool comic book quotes that you'd like to see spotlighted here, drop me a line at brianc@cbr.com. There's a decent enough chance that if you think the quote in question is super cool than I, too, will find it super cool and feature it here. Not a 100% chance, though, of course. Let's say roughly a 60% chance. I do need a whole month's worth of these quotes, after all!
