WARNING: The following contains spoilers for Batman Beyond #49 by Dan Jurgens, Paul Pelletier, Norm Rapmund, Chris Sotomayor, and Travis Lanham, on sale now.

Batman and Booster Gold are no strangers to one another. The two Justice Leaguers have run across each other on multiple occasions across multiple timelines. This latest encounter takes place in Neo Gotham where an older Booster Gold and Bruce Wayne have launched a scheme to ensure Terry's Batman Beyond origin story remains unchanged.

To do this, they trick a younger Booster Gold into taking Terry back in time to help Batman defeat a warlock named Blanque. Booster Gold meets a strapping young Bruce Wayne as Batman in the year 2020 in Batman Beyond #49. During the skirmish, Booster uses his forcefield technology to stop a bus that Blanque threw with this telekinesis. Batman's curiosity was instantly aroused when he saw Booster's powerful technology.  And from the sound of things, the Dark Knight was more than a little jealous.

Batman and Booster Gold have had several interactions throughout the years, even outside of their shared time together on the Justice League. In Tom King and Tony Daniel's Batman #45, Booster Gold tried  to save Batman's parents in "The Gift." As a result, Booster created an alternate version of Gotham that was a twisted hellscape. Situations like this show how downright bad Booster is at his job. It's hard to think Batman would find any redeeming qualities in a person as careless as Booster has shown himself to be, but even Batman isn't above asking for help from the "greatest hero you've never heard of."

Batman instantly sees how Booster's tech could help him against the super criminals of Gotham City. Right after he sees Booster's tech in action, Blanque throws him against a tree and renders him unconscious, something the microweave circuit fabric would have easily prevented. We have seen Batman incorporate technology like this into his suit and gadgetry in the past. In the anthology movie Batman: Gotham Knight, one of the stories features Batman testing out forcefield technology much like the kind Booster showed off. While it protects Batman from some small arms fire, it ricochets bullets and injures another man, which ultimately made it a non-starter.

That might be the biggest difference between Booster Gold and Batman right there. Batman isn't willing to risk anyone but himself while he's wearing the cape and cowl. Booster, on the other hand, has put entire timelines at risk for meaningless reasons.

If Booster Gold wants to be anything like Batman, it's going to take a little more than fancy gizmos to get him there, even if Batman is jealous of his fancy toys.
