While Dick Grayson may have become well-known as one of Batman’s greatest accomplishments in this regard, Jason Todd has perhaps become known as Batman’s greatest failure.

Red Hood fighting Batman in "Under the Hood"

While Jason may have not been the most talented Robin to have ever been taken under Batman’s wing, after his resurrection, Jason renewed his training with exponentially more vigor. Much like Bruce, Jason began traveling the world in order to master any form of martial arts that he could come in contact with. Jason has trained with Batman, the League of Assassins, Lady Shiva, Bronze Tiger, and All Caste- all of whom regard him as the greatest pupil to have ever come under their tutelage.

9 Expert Marksman

Though Jason followed in the footsteps of Batman and traveled the world in order to master various forms of martial arts, he wasn’t satisfied with just learning martial arts. Jason wanted to learn how to hit any target in order to kill anyone that needed to be permanently dealt with.

After his death at the hands of Joker, Jason was no longer willing to play by Batman’s ethics, he knew that if he was really going to make any headway in the fight against Batman and the villains of Gotham, he was going to need to learn to kill with all types of weapons. Jason is so proficient with various guns, in fact, that his accuracy is on par with even Deadshot.

8 Explosive Skills

After having traveled the world learning from all the greatest masters on how to fight, kill, and shoot, Jason was still hungry to add to his arsenal. So while on his quest to become one of the greatest fighters and killers in the world, Jason also learned from a master bomb crafter. These skills would help Jason to not only assemble incredibly complex bombs, but they would also help him to be able to defuse expertly crafted bombs as well.

After his resurrection and subsequent training by Talia and Ra’s al Ghul, Jason was almost ready to take his revenge on Batman, the man that had let him down. While Jason had originally been trained by Batman to uphold his values should he ever need a replacement, Jason is nothing like the Batman who had taught him the tricks of the trade. Jason’s version of Batman is much more willing to kill and use guns, a fact that none of the other Robins are too fond of.

5 Brought Back To Life By Superboy-Prime

Though DC’s Animated version of Under The Red Hood paints a picture of Ra’s al Ghul, racked with guilt, doing everything to save the young Robin after he makes a bad deal with the uncontrollable Joker, in the comics, things are a bit different. Sometime after Jason’s death, Superboy-Prime enters the DC universe and with a reality-breaking punch, he both kills many people and brings some back. Among those that have been brought back from the void is Jason Todd.

After a thief recognizes the street-dwelling Jason and reports the information back to Talia al Ghul, however, Jason is brought to the League of Assassins in hopes that they can rehabilitate him. After several attempts, Talia eventually decides to push Jason into the Lazarus pit where he regains his mental faculties and begins his quest to take revenge on those involved in his death.

3 “Superhuman” Strength

After his little dip in the Lazarus pit, Jason comes out as a new man. Though he still has a lot of training to endure in order to get back in peak shape and grown beyond even the level that Batman had trained him, the Lazarus pit had bestowed him with some superhuman abilities. Not only has Jason’s “perfect” resurrection helped him regain his mental faculties, but he’s also become stronger, faster and, quicker in healing from injuries. In fact, Jason is so strong upon his return that several heroes, including Supergirl, remark that no regular human should be as strong as Jason is.

2 He Doesn’t Age

Though Jason’s little dip in the Lazarus helped him in many different ways, perhaps the most helpful would be the fact that Jason no longer ages. Because Jason’s resurrection was a perfect resurrection, he has been granted many attributes that make it possible for him to cheat death time and again.

1 From Bad To Good, To Bad, And Back Again

Jason Todd stealing tires from the Batmobile

Jason has a fairly complex history when it comes to which side of the law he’s actually fighting for. When he was first introduced (after Crisis On Infinite Earths), Jason was caught stealing the wheels from the batmobile, which was when Batman decided to take the young boy in off the streets and train him to become the next Robin. However, after his death, Jason began down a much darker path fueled by revenge and paved with bullets and bodies. Since then, Jason has again become more aligned with the vision and values that Batman had instilled in him, though he still kills when he deems it necessary.
