The Batman: Jason Alexander Quietly Campaigning to Play Penguin

With Jonah Hill reportedly no longer in talks to join Matt Reeves' The Batman as Oswald Cobblepot/Penguin, Seinfeld's Jason Alexander hinted that he'd like to play the character.

"Ok, Jonah Hill passed," Alexander posted on Twitter. "Clearly the next move for Penguin has to be someone familiar with marine biology. Ahem."

The actor is referencing the Seinfeld episode in which his character, George Costanza, pretends to be a marine biologist in order to impress a woman he is dating. This was the 78th episode of the series and first premiered on February 10, 1994.

While Jonah Hill won't be appearing as Penguin in the film, 12 Years a Slave's Paul Dano will be playing Edward Nashton/The Riddler. Also confirmed to join the film is Spider-Man: Into the Spiderverse's Zoe Kravitz, who will play Selina Kyle/Catwoman. Robert Pattinson is playing Bruce Wayne/Batman.

In addition to his years as George Costanza on Seinfeld, Jason Alexander has also had appearances on Community, The Simpsons and Robot Chicken. The actor will be providing his voice to the upcoming Harley Quinn animated series for DC Universe.

The Batman is directed by Matt Reeves, who will also produce alongside Dylan Clark. Casting is still underway, with the film scheduled to be released on June 25, 2021.
