With Warner Bros. on the hunt for a new Batman and Oswald Cobblepot tipped to be one of the movie's big bads, fans are hoping to hear some casting news soon. Although actor Josh Gad has expressed his interest in the role, comedian/musician Jack Black wouldn't mind waddling onto screens as Penguin

While promoting The House with a Clocks in Its Walls last year, Black told ET Canada he'd love to join the world of superhero movies. “Is there talk of me as the Penguin? Are we starting it?” he joked. “Uh, yeah, that would be a role, that would be fun.”

However, the Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle star tried not to jinx himself: “I mean, I hate to put myself out there and say that because then when I don’t get that part, it was, ‘Oh, Jack tried to get the thing.’ I didn’t try anything! I’m just saying maybe that would be good.”

Black also offered up a pretty perfect version of Burgess Meredith’s Penguin chuckle from the ABC's Batman TV series.

Penguin is one of the Caped Crusader's most recognizable villains. The character has appeared in various animations and video games since his creation, and was portrayed by Danny DeVito in Tim Burton's Batman Returns. Philip Seymour Hoffman was rumored to be in talks for the role in Christopher Nolan's Dark Knight trilogy, but it was sadly a casting that never came to be.

While Penguin was originally thought to be the main villain of Cathy Yan's Birds of Prey, it looks like the studio is saving the iconic Batman foe for the Dark Knight's own standalone. Robin Taylor Lord currently plays the character on Fox's Gotham, which will end this year. However, a more comic-accurate version of Penguin is supposedly on the way.

Directed by Matt Reeves, The Batman opens in theaters on June 25, 2021.
