When the trailer for Titans Season 1 dropped, fans were taken aback when Brenton Thwaites' Robin uttered that iconic "Fuck Batman" line. Of course, in the premiere episode of the series, "Titans," we'd get more context. Dick Grayson was disillusioned and bitter towards Bruce Wayne for his brutal brand of fighting crime and how he weaponized child soldiers.
This led to the profane dismissal from Dick after he busted a drug deal and took down a child abuser, clearly pissed that thugs still associated him with the Dark Knight. In DCeased #6 writer Tom Taylor takes a page from the DC Universe series with another hero cursing the Bat, albeit for a much different reason.
In the finale of this Elseworlds story, Taylor has Wonder Woman convene the remaining members of the Justice League to formulate a plan to stop a zombified Superman. Damian Wayne, picking up the deceased Bruce's mantel as the new Batman, reveals a flash drive that has a plan to take down every major hero he deems a threat. Oliver Queen bemoans the Dark Knight's constant distrust, even from the grave. Then, in a comedic moment, Damian reveals Bruce actually didn't have a contingency plan for Ollie because he apparently didn't think Green Arrow was worth it.
Ollie takes issue with this, especially since his ego is dented in front his peers and the love of his life, Black Canary. He's clearly hurt, being a narcissist and all, and reminds everyone he could be a planetary danger if he wanted to. However, given how grave the situation is, no one really has time for his pouting. Green Arrow has the last laugh, though, when Diana sends him on an ark to take refugees from Themyscira off-planet, as it seems whether or not Superman dies, the Earth's doomed.
However, Paradise Island is under attack and Mera, Hippolyta and the Amazons are assaulted by the undead warriors from Atlantis. Leading the charge is Aquaman, standing tall on top of the monstrous Kraken and ready to spill more blood. However, an arrow is swiftly put through his head by Ollie from half a mile away. It's a brilliant killshot and one we'd expect from Arrow, but given the turbulent winds and conditions he's facing, his precision really does show he can't be underestimated. And with a king and omega-level threat taken down in the blink of an eye, Ollie exclaims to himself, "Fuck you, Batman."
It's a lighthearted moment that also reminds us Green Arrow can be a badass. And even though Bruce didn't see him as an important figurehead, Ollie's a savior doing Batman's job right now by risking his life against threats way out of his league. Yet, unlike Dick who had nothing but contempt for the Bat, Ollie still has respect for Bruce as a leader and knows it's nothing but banter.
